Denim fabrics exports at a glance
Global denim fabrics exports realized as 4.7 billion dollars in 2021, showing an increase of 36.7 percent over the previous year. China, the world’s largest denim fabrics exporter with a share of 41.7 percent, reported 2 billion dollars of denim cloth exports in 2021, and was followed by Pakistan (650 million dollars), India (594 million dollars) and Türkiye (338 million dollars).
Türkiye, holding a 7.2 percent share in the global denim fabrics exports, reported an increase of 33.2 percent in 2021 compared to 2020, and became the fourth largest denim fabrics exporter in the world.
Denim fabrics imports on the rise
In 2021, textile manufacturers across the globe made 4.3 billion dollar worth denim fabrics imports, displaying an increase of 34.9 percent over the previous year. Bangladesh, the world’s largest denim fabrics importer with a share of 30 percent, reported 1.3 billion dollars of denim cloth imports in 2021, and was followed by Vietnam (326 million dollars), Tunisia (231 million dollars), Cambodia (230 million dollars), and Türkiye (222 million dollars).
Türkiye, holding a 5.2 percent share in the global denim fabrics imports, reported an increase of 20.8 percent in 2021 compared to 2020, and became the world’s fifth largest denim fabrics importer.
In 2021, Türkiye’s largest exports market in the field of denim fabrics turned out to be Tunisia, which purchased 62 million dollar worth denim fabrics from Turkish denim fabrics manufacturers.

Holding a share of 18.3 percent, Tunisia was followed by Egypt (53 million dollars) and Morocco (33 million dollars). Other primary exports markets of Türkiye in the same year included Italy, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Germany, Serbia, Iran and the United States, respectively.

Holding a share of 48.4 percent corresponding to 107 million dollars, Pakistan was followed by Egypt (49 million dollars), Italy (18 million dollars), Turkmenistan (14 million dollars), North Macedonia (9 million dollars), China (5 million dollars), India and Taiwan (4 million dollars), Japan (3 million dollars), and Uzbekistan (2 million dollars).
EU’s denim fabrics imports up by 7.2 percent
The value of denim fabrics imports made by the European Union (EU) in 2021 was reported as 167 million dollars, up by 7.2 percent compared to the previous year. While 33.6 percent of the denim fabrics imports of the EU was supplied by vendors based in EU member countries, the remaining 66.4 percent was provided by vendors located in non-EU countries. In 2021, the largest non-EU denim fabrics supplier of EU turned out to be Türkiye, holding a share of 35.8 percent corresponding to 40 million euros.
